PostSubject: Component vs HDMI   Thu Mar 18, 2010 7:51 pm

I know alot of people are personally confused with this. So I thought I could make this thread to help out.

-Basically, HDMI and Component cables are the mediums that you use to get HD signals from your Xbox 360. The difference is that HDMI has a digital signal, while component has an analog signal. Both Component and HDMI can get you 1080p signals.

-Although some older 1080p TV's only accept 1080p through HDMI.

-Some TV's handle digital signals better, while some TV's handle analog signals better.

-HDMI is capable of higher resolutions overtime. But considering that the Xbox 360's max resolution is 1920 X 1080, I doubt this will really matter.

-HDMI can transmit both audio and video signals all through one cable. Although Component requires the white and red cables for audio.

-With HDMI you can upscale DVDs. And watch Zune HD movies in 1080p. With component you can only watch DVDs in 480p and Zune HD movies up to 1080i.

I hope I helped. If you guys think I'm missing anything please let me know.

HDMI is just better because its just one cable and just from a ease standpoint, its better.

I prefer HDMI to Component for ease of use and the graphic quality.

My Samsung B750 prefers the 360 via HDMI.

When using component the edges look softer than when compared to HDMI.

HDMI is crisp and I get better blacks because the set enables HDMI black level settings.

Though I prefer component over VGA (VGA on 360 looks washed out).

My thoughts exactly. HDMI provides a more honest representation of an HD picture since it's digital. Component and VGA aren't bad, but I'd always avoid them if I had the option to go with HDMI.

I use HDMI on my 360 and PS3. My friend has a 1st gen 360 and has to use component cables, but you really cant tell a difference. HDMI is just easier.

Yeah I use HDMI. Pain in the ass because my TV only has one HDMI input so I'm continuously switching between 360/PS3.
