PostSubject: Hobby Consolas: Alan Wake review   Sun Apr 25, 2010 6:43 am

Part 1:

Alan Wake arrives to Bright Falls with the intention to rest and recover is inspiration. Nothing more illegible while leaving the bags in a cabin in the middle of the lake, his wife suddenly dissapears. The writer wakes up a week later inside a car after suffering from a car accident. Its in this point that starts a thrilling adventure in wich the protagonist needs to find anwsers in the town of what happened while discovers fragments of a novel that he himself does not remember writing. However the worse is yet to come, cuz when the night falls the people of the town is possessed by a dark force that wants to kill Alan Wake.

Part 2:

Day and Night play a essential role in Alan Wake and his adventure. In the day times, the player can investigate the town of Bright Falls for his missing wife with ease, while talking to NPCs. However in the night times the dark forces takes control of the people who don't need to take long to attack us. To fight them we need to use a light source, to eliminate they're "dark shields" and then kill them with firearms (pistol, shotgun, hunting rifle, flares...) while solving puzzles and while finding in every corner of the town and woods for traces of your missing wife or collectibles (optional).

Part 3:

The story is devided in episodes, like for example the TV series LOST. Each time you start a new episode, you even see a brief summary of your previously playthrough. This gives Alan Wake a cinematic experience like no other game with: the characters, the drama, the scrip, soundtrack and the outstanding ambience.

Part 4:

Technically the game is amazing. The game engine is hallucinatory. It shows very big scenarios all of them full of detail, either inside the houses or on the outside (its breathtaking to see how the trees and plants move by the wind of a hurricane). Plus the light effects are top notch, from the sunshine to the light of the lantern in the middle of the night (you can even illuminate a house from the outside with the lantern to see if its empty inside). The character models are very detail however sometimes they lack expression on they're faces.

Part 5:

The final result is a excellent survival horror, that grabs the best of Silent Hill, puts it with a great combat system and very likeable characters ( like for example Barry, the comic relieve and best friend of Alan Wake). Join it with luxury environments a intrigant story make us play the 6 episodes totally non stop.

Verdict:

The best - The story, makes never leave the game until we finish it thanks to a great scrip and amazing environments. The combat, theres plenty of non stop action and they are all great fun. The use of light works very well.

The worse - Only 10 hours, we would like to play some more of Alan Wake. Some face expressions just don't live up to the game.

Graphics - The environments really is something spectacular, either we talk about the light effects or the climatologic effects. (92)

Sound - Amazing soundtrack and sound effects. (94)

Duration - The Achilles heel of the game. 10 hours and the more casual gamers just probably would not touch it again. (82)

Fun factor - The story rhythm, the combat and the scrip makes us not leave the game until we finish it. (93)

Wow, did you went through the trouble of translating it yourself? Thought about doing it, but it was just too much work. If so, kudos to you.

Some of my favourite games aren't particularly long and can be completed also in about 10/15 hours and I think that's a great length for a game of its style. Hell, that's not even including the exploration which I do A LOT.
Definately a must-buy from me though it's a shame it didn't live up to the standards of Deadly Premonition.
